What really happened to the Comet? Was it cursed... or just unlucky?

Built in June 1848 to carry passengers in comfort along Lake Ontario routes, the steamer Comet had bad luck from day one. The ship was known for breaking down and crashing. Then on May 14, 1861, disaster struck. During a wild storm, the Comet smashed into another ship, the Exchange, near Simcoe Island. The crew fought to reach land, but the Comet sank just 2 kilometres from shore. Two crew members didn't make it.
