Studio Talks: Flattery, fraud, and the fine line of keeping visual art original

When does original truly mean one of a kind, and when does it cross a line from inspiration into creative imitation? A chat with Nadine Baker about the delicate differences, how to navigate the issues of trademark and a suspected copycat, and some tips on retaining your originality in the arts sector.

Nadine Baker lives and works in Kingston, Ontario.

Trained professionally as an illustrator and visual artist in Toronto, with a graduate business degree, Nadine’s passion for the arts and community eventually led her to arts management. As a founding Board Member for the Tett Centre of Creativity and Learning, she played an integral part in its creation and success, becoming Director for its first 7 years. She felt privileged to be Chairperson of the City of Kingston’s Arts Advisory Committee in 2020 and feels strongly the importance of connection between the arts and a city’s heart.
